The Water

Whatever she is singing, Kelly Girvan's sexy breathy voice shines through as original.  A talented singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (she plays guitar, piano, and accordian) originally from Alberta, Kelly makes the Cowichan Valley her home.  Her original songs can be hauntly beautiful, boot-stomping honky-tonk, jazz or celtic influenced depending on her mood.  Combining her Alberta farm girl songwriting with bluegrass instruments and her indie voice, Kelly's debut album "Pieces of the Puzzle" delicately blends old and new genres. With Virginian native Jeff Ellis contributing a whole lot of upright bass, banjo, acoustic guitar and mandolin to Kelly's rhythm guitar and singing, roots music meets with modern songwriting with a powerful feminine twist.  True to her Capricorn influence, Kelly has a very important day job as an elementary school music teacher, while at night she lets her hair down and straps on a guitar to sing her melodic original tunes.  Or she may just say to hell with it and play some Johnny Cash covers instead.  Whatever she sings, you'll be happy to hear what she has to say...

Kelly plays at local venues in the Cowichan Valley.
